Composition Short Course:“Beyond the Closeup”
withShelley Paulson

Course will start on March 1st

Do you feel like your photos are all starting to look the same? Do you wish you could take more creative photographs? Have you ever wanted to learn how to tell stories with your photos? Well, if you answered yes to any one of these, then this course is for you!

Composition is a foundational principle of photography, and yet many photographers have not taken the time to learn and master this aspect of photography, and instead are stuck taking mainly images that are close up and fill the frame. Mastering composition will greatly improve your photos, your enjoyment of photography, and will draw people in to spend more time enjoying your photographs.

By definition, composition is about arranging elements in a scene so that there is harmony, balance and a clear path for the eye to follow. You will learn how to clean up your backgrounds, frame your subjects, use leading lines, find the right viewpoint, and more.

In this short course, you will learn and practice eight principles of composition. For each assignment, you will be asked to take photos illustrating that principal. Because it is winter, these do NOT have to be horse photos, but you are welcome to use horses as your subject. You will be pointed to lots of great articles and resources on the Internet for that principal, and best of all, you will receive personal feedback on your photos and answers to your specific questions.

This class is open to photographers of all technical skills as composition is about how you see and frame your images and not about camera settings.
