"Fillies in a bunch".Moments after breaking from the starting gate, fillies are still bunched up as they take off around the track.

Pony stallion was walking with dried up weeds in his mouth when I grabbed this shot.
Have always loved photographing the candid moments that depict "horse life".

I know I am late, but I thought I would participate anyway. This one is my absolute favorite and best of 2016, and it's also everything that I wish to photograph every day, horses and women. This is Claire, an aerialist and rider at Cavalia, with one of our horses at the ranch I work at in Colorado.

This is my second favorite of 2016, just because I got to photograph in such an amazing location, Garden of the Gods in Colorado. This is Amy and her OTTB Patriot.

This is my third favorite of 2016. Kelly and her Quarter Horse gelding, Decker, at 4Eagle Ranch in Colorado.

I love the sheer grit and competitive nature of this image of Jennie Brannigan racing to the timer at the Essex Horse Trials Derby Cross last June. There was no large prize to win, just bragging rights! Jennie ended up the winner, no wonder with her sense of drive and determination!

I always enjoy portrait sessions, and sometimes find it hard to stop shooting if I have an interesting location. This was not a particularly special barn, but the light coming through the open window called to me; we were at the end of the session and ready to return Rocky to his stall. I suggested just a few more, and I am so glad I did, and caught this lovely moment between Rocky and his owner.

I'm late. This is not my best, but it is my favorite. I had the privilege of spending time with Leslie Howard in 2016. She is my age, gets on her horses and goes wide open, no fear.

One of my faves of the year. With the help of a friend, I was able to get my horses running in the deep snow on a crisp, sunny winter's day.
