Chincoteague Meet Up
December 7 & 8

Join us December 7 & 8 for a weekend of ponies and bird photography on the lovely island of Chincoteague, Virginia for our annual Chincoteague Meet Up! A boat tour and bus tour will be offered.

Please send an email to info@equinephotographers.org with "Chincoteague Meet Up" in the subject line to receive details and updates and so we can add you on the email list that will put participants in touch with each other. We will need to know if you plan to join us for dinner on Friday or Saturday night, so we can get a head count and make reservations. A bus tour and boat tour for Saturday and Sunday will be offered. There will be a charge for the boat and bus tours, the rest is pay as you go.

Plan your trip by going here:

There are lots of lodging options on Chincoteague. A good choice is the Best Western, double occupancy is $60-70 (check rates through hotels.com and expedia) and this includes fridge, microwave and full breakfast. This place is clean, friendly and quiet, and about a one minute drive from the refuge. Lots of other options for lodging is also available on the island.

More info on the refuge can be found here:

There is a $20 usage fee per car for the refuge, this will get you into both north and south ends and is good for a week.

The refuge is open from dawn till dusk, and this is the time of day when you will see the most snow goose activity. There is a wild life loop that is open to vehicles every afternoon. There are trails for hiking and a lighthouse. Lots of bird life and of course ponies.

If you are driving from the north I highly recommend visiting the northern, Maryland end of the island, you will see ponies there. From there it is about another hour to the southern end in Virginia.

Lodging and meals will be up to you, a boat tour is planned for Saturday and bus tour into the refuge for Sunday. There will be charges for both of these tours, everything will pay as you go so last minute decisions are OK, depending on available space.
