Want to take some photos! Where to start from?

Hello!
I stay in San Mateo, CA (SF Bay Area) for next 3 weeks and looking for some pretty horses to take some shots. Could you please give me some advises where to start from? I've just came from Russia to USA and totally new in looking for horses to shoot here.
I'm also open for meetings =)

There is some amazing scenery on the Peninsula. A friend took me out to Garrod Farms in Saratoga (looks about 25-30 miles southwest of San Mateo) - up in the canyons. They rent horses for trail rides, give lessons, have boarders - and also have a winery on site.
