How Much is the going rate for Designing Adverts?

Postby Frances Luse on Sat Sep 05, 2009 1:50 pm

A trainer client of mine had me create some stallion cards for a stallion she has in training. Originally owner (who lives in LA, CA) was going to have a pro graphic designer do it... but never got it done, and Nationals are in 2 weeks or so... So trainer had me create something.... Now that owner has seen the work and likes it but may want something that looks more expensive... so may have a pro do the work now.... (I am the photographer and took/own the images being used).... i told the trainer the owner will still have to pay for the work I did yesterday evening (about 5 hours w/ all the change this, change font that, etc, etc)...

I removed the backgrounds from the head shot and the action pictures...

So, I need to get a bill together and need to know the going rate. Thanks!

Frances

Hi

I like what you designed for your client, I too would be very interested in what other photographers charge.
I charge $40 per hour for art work ( only if I have done the origional photography) I wont work on another photographers images. However I offer set template options otherwise like you mentioned they want to make too many changes and it becomes a long and painful process.

I charge $55/hr plus a photo charge if mine is used. I'll design with my own or other photographer's pics.

Sorry, I don't think designers or photographers are going to share their rates with the general public. Do a google search for graphic designers, and see if their rates are on their websites, and study their designs, or take classes.

I charge a license fee for my photos to be used on business cards or other forms of advertising, but I would never hold myself out as a graphic designer. I always recommend that clients use a professional designer.

Frances, I want to welcome you to EPNet. Perhaps, I am mistaken, but it appears you are a registered guest. I'm curious as to why you have the Equine Photographers Network membership logo on your website? I hope you become a member!
