Professional Photographers of America (PPA) has about 28,000 members. Of those about 5,ooo to 7,000 people enter prints in their annual competition. Of all of those prints, about 2,000 to 2,500 prints are selected by a panel of judges to go into the General Collection - prints they feel have merit. Of those 2,000-2,500 General Collection Prints, another panel of judges select 900 to 1,000 prints they feel are the best of the best - those are placed into the Loan Collection. They are made into the Loan Collection Book. They again draw from the General Collection about 200 more prints, that aren't considered the best of the best, but better than the General Collections. They place those in a book called Showcase. It is a big deal to be selected for the General Collection. Its a really, really big deal to have your print selected to be in the Loan Collection and quite an honor to have a print in the Showcase Book.
So my brag is that I have two prints (both taken at Sombrero) that were honored by PPA. The cowboy made the esteemed Loan Collection and the Watering Hole was chosen for the Showcase Book.
