Protected by big brother by Christina Weidmann
This was the first day Zabarday (1.5 years old) was separated from the herd. I put him into a group of older stallions and he was so happy to refind here his old herd buddy Munsij (2 years old) and got his protection in this group. I had a lot of action photos but this one showed so nicely how Munsij protected Zabarday. Hungary morning, afternoon was very stormy.

Broodmare Meadow by Suzy Cossman
Our Summer Solstice day at the Pidcock/Coates Quarter Horse Ranch was a pretty mild day for us here in eastern Washington State. Dutch (the grey mare) and Cougar (the palomino mare) had a watchful eye as my friends, LG and Jeannie, and I took a walk through the mares summer pasture around 6:40pm. Mares and colts were leisurely munching on summer grass as the stallion stood watch on the eleven mares and their babies. Jeannie kept an eye on the stallion as LG got the mares attention and I set up for my photo shoot.

Windswept by Sarah Underwood
The Province of Alberta is one part of Canada that is leading the way in the development of wind power, with over 500 Megawatts currently connected to the grid (that's 670,511 Horsepower, in case you were wondering). This is enough to service more than 500,000 homes. Even while standing a good distance away from the turbine to take this picture, I could almost feel -- and could certainly hear the 180 foot long blades slicing through the cool mountain air near the town of Glenwood. On this stormy afternoon, the indecisive wind direction resulted in an erratic flight pattern for the birds, which were stirred up as the mare and foal started towards me to investigate. The dandelions that have just turned to fluff will have no issue with seed distribution, but the lovely Paints will likely have a permanent "windswept" look!

Almost Ready to Drive by Gigi Embrechts
This is a photo taken in Lille, Belgium. This is one of the photos taken of acouple that runs a farm for challenged homeless children and familes. They offer them a chance to come and work and interact on the farm. Once a year the couple takes a holiday with one of the Ardenennes Draft horses and travel with their wagon and dog through the back roads of Belgium. They stopped near our house to rest for the night and in the morning I had an opportunity to photograph them and get their story. They are doing good work for people and animals.

Friends, Silhouetted by Jerry Gowins
My original plan was to show up at my friends ranch and photograph "Murphy", her four month old colt, with his mother in the late evening sun. But as I was putting my gear together just inside her barn, she walked up with "Slider" and her ever present dog "Patriot" and fed him a little snack in the doorway. I asked her to stay there for a bit, and grabbed a few shots before she put him back in his stall. I still managed a couple shots of the colt, but this was my favorite shot of the evening. The truth about the colt? I discovered where he LOVES to be scratched. After that I had a hard time keeping him away from me so I could photograph him!
